Hickstead made history in international showjumping with Eric Lamaze. The pair won individual gold and team silver at the 2008 Olympic Games and triumphed in prestigious Grands Prix, including Aachen and the Spruce Meadows Masters. With more than four million dollars in prize money, he ranked among the most successful showjumpers of all time. His demanding sporting career meant that Hickstead saw only limited use as a breeding stallion. Nevertheless, he sired international performers such as Cayman Jolly Jumper and the approved stallion Hickstead White. This son of Hamlet out of an Ekstein mare passed on explosive power, carefulness, quick reflexes, fighting spirit and an exceptional competitive mindset.
